  • The 2014 County Health Rankings ranked Cuyahoga County 65 out of 88 Ohio counties for health outcomes.
  • As of 2011, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 38.9% of county adults were overweight and 25.7% of the county adults were obese (CDC, 2011).
  • According to the 2013 Cuyahoga County Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), 28.6% of students surveyed were overweight or obese as of the survey date (Prevention Research Center for Healthy Neighborhoods, 2013).
  • As of 2011, 24.3% of county adults smoked cigarettes (CDC, 2011).
  • According to the 2013 Cuyahoga County YRBS, 10.4% of students surveyed smoked a cigarette on at least one day during the thirty days preceding the survey (Prevention Research Center for Healthy Neighborhoods, 2013).
  • As of 2011, 31.7% of county adults have been told they have high cholesterol, while 31.2% have been told they have high blood pressure (CDC, 2011).
  • As of 2011, 22.4% of county adults indicated that they participated in enough aerobic and muscle strengthening exercises to meet recommended guidelines (CDC, 2011).
  • According to the 2013 Cuyahoga County YRBS, 47.0% of students met recommended levels of physical activity, and 21.6% of students ate the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables during the week preceding the survey (Prevention Research Center for Healthy Neighborhoods, 2013).
  • Cuyahoga County is experiencing a trend of chronic diseases and heart disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory disease, stroke, unintentional injuries and Alzheimer’s disease are the leading causes of death in the county (Ohio Department of Health (ODH), 2010).
  • According to Bike Cleveland, “Bike Safety Ordinances- It’s the law: motorists in the City of Cleveland must give three feet of space when passing a bicycle. Bike Cleveland worked to create this law and has launched the “Ride Together” public awareness campaign so that people know of bike riders’ right to the road” (Bike Cleveland, 2013)
